We launched a podcast. Similar to this newsletter, it’s for curious people who love restaurants. Sometimes the pod and the newsletter will delve into the same topics, other times, not so much. We’ll have guests from the industry or adjacent, relevant industries (think operators, economists, tech founders, etc).
I am extremely excited to be doing this with my Co-Host Deirdre Auld and our Producer, Mia Groves. Deirdre is longtime industry friend and colleague who recently completed her Masters at Northwestern and then co-founded Tableside which offers leadership development programs for restaurants. Mia runs marketing & digital media for us at Shy Bird.
The podcast name comes from an Atlantic article, The Case for Shyness, by Megan Garber where she’s reviewing Shrinking Violets by Joe Moran.
The shy are frequently thoughtful and occasionally brilliant. They are often sensitive to the needs, and the gaze, of others. The problem is that they live in a world that, despite the commonality of shyness, has extremely little patience for it.
Here’s a quick teaser on the first 3 episodes:
How did the Olympics impact the Paris restaurant community, and why?
A deep dive into restaurant wages, economic impacts and more with
Ara Kharazian, the economic research lead at Square.
Putting this out there on Sunday night in case anybody wants to geek out on restaurants on the their morning commute this week.
I’d really love to get feedback on how this podcast can improve, topic and guest suggestions, whatever. Feel free to email me at eli@shybird.com or message me on Substack.
Thanks! Eli
